Delete your account

You can delete your Nirmaan account and the learning data attached to it at any time — from inside the app, or by writing to us. This page explains how to ask, what gets deleted, and what we are required to keep.

Effective from 1 August 2026Last updated 11 August 2026Applies to app version 1.0 and later

1. Which app and account this applies to

This page applies to accounts created in the Nirmaan student app for Android (package name com.nirmaan.studentapp) and to accounts created on nirmaan.education. Both are operated by Nirmaan Learning LLP, a limited liability partnership registered in India (LLPIN ACM-8695), which is the data fiduciary responsible for the data described here.

Deleting your account here does not delete your Google Account, and it does not cancel anything you bought outside Nirmaan. If you have an active subscription, see Payments & Refunds before you delete, because a deleted account cannot be restored to claim a refund afterwards.

2. How to request deletion

There are two ways to delete your account. Either one works.

Option 1 — In the app

Open the Nirmaan app and go to Profile → Delete Account. You will be asked to confirm. Once you confirm, deletion begins immediately and no further email is needed.

Option 2 — By email

If you have uninstalled the app, cannot sign in, or would simply rather write to us, send us a deletion request by email. Send it from the email address registered on the account so that we can verify it is really you.

Email a deletion request

Writes to hello@nirmaan.education with the subject Account deletion request. If the button does not open your mail app, just send an email to that address yourself with the same subject.

A parent or guardian may make this request on behalf of a child, and a school administrator may make it for an account the school created. We may ask for confirmation of the relationship before we act.

3. What to include in your email

So that we can find the right account and verify the request, please tell us:

  • The email address or mobile number registered on the account.
  • The learner’s name or display name as it appears in the app.
  • A clear statement that you want the account and its data deleted permanently.
  • If you are a parent, guardian or school administrator writing on someone else’s behalf, say so and tell us your relationship to the learner.

Please do not send us passwords, payment card details or any government identification. We never need them, and we will not ask for them.

4. What happens after you ask

  • We acknowledge within 3 working days. You will get a reply confirming that we have received the request.
  • We verify who you are. Usually this is satisfied simply by the request arriving from the registered address. If it does not, we will write back and ask one or two questions to confirm ownership of the account before we delete anything.
  • We complete deletion within 15 days of verifying the request, and usually much sooner. Deletion covers our production systems and propagates to our encrypted backups within the same window, as those backups roll over.
  • We confirm when it is done. You will receive a final email telling you the account and its data have been deleted.

Deletion is permanent. Deleting your account is not a freeze or a suspension — the underlying data is removed and cannot be restored, by you or by us. If you want to use Nirmaan again later, you will start a new account with no prior history, no saved progress and no past conversations.

There is no charge for any of this, and we will not ask you to give a reason or sit through a retention offer. If for some reason we cannot carry out the request, we will tell you plainly why.

5. What gets deleted

When your account is deleted, we delete all of the following from our production systems and from our backups as they roll over:

CategoryWhat this covers
Account and login credentialsYour email address, mobile number and hashed password, and any linked sign-in method
ProfileName or display name, grade or class, board or curriculum, subjects, preferred language, school name and profile photo
Learning recordLessons started and completed, answers given, mistakes made, concepts diagnosed as weak, time on task, streaks and scores
Tutor conversationsEverything you typed to the AI tutor and everything it said back to you
Voice recordingsAudio you recorded for the tutor, and the transcripts made from it
Images you submittedPhotographs of textbook pages, worksheets and handwritten work that you captured or uploaded
Preferences and settingsNotification choices, language and display settings
Device and usage data linked to youThe app instance identifier, device and app information, and app-activity and diagnostic records that are tied to your account
Support correspondence linked to the accountMessages you sent through in-app support or the website contact form, other than the deletion request itself

Anything we had already turned into aggregate, anonymous statistics — numbers that cannot be traced back to any individual — stays in that aggregate form. It contains nothing that identifies you.

6. What we keep, why, and for how long

A small amount of data survives account deletion, only where the law requires it or where we need it to prove we honoured your request:

What we keepWhyHow long
Invoices and payment recordsRequired by Indian tax and company law8 years from the end of the relevant financial year
A minimal record that an account with a given identifier was deleted, and whenSo we can evidence that we honoured your request, and so the same request is not processed twiceRetained as a compliance record; contains no learning content
Records of verifiable parental consentRequired as evidence of compliance with children’s data protection rules3 years after the child’s account is closed
Data under an active legal holdA specific legal obligation, court order or ongoing dispute requires us to preserve itOnly for as long as the obligation or hold lasts, then deleted

Nothing in this residual set is used to rebuild your profile, to train our models, to contact you or to market to you. It sits in restricted storage and is used only for the purpose named above.

7. Deleting some data without closing your account

You do not have to close your account to remove data from it. If you want to delete a single tutor conversation, particular voice recordings, or the images you uploaded — and keep the account itself — email hello@nirmaan.education with the subject Delete specific data, telling us what you want removed. We handle these on the same timeline as a full deletion.

Separately, learning content expires on its own. Tutor conversations, voice recordings and submitted images are automatically deleted 24 months after they are created, whether or not you ask. Diagnostic and crash logs are kept for up to 90 days.

8. Questions or complaints

If you have a question about deletion, or you are unhappy with how we handled a request, contact our Grievance Officer:
